If you have not been to New Zealand we highly suggest booking a stay at one of the two Wilderness Lodges. Out time at these locations are highlights of our 13 Day South Island Bike Tour.
We spend three nights at both of the wilderness lodges — one is located in the towering rainforest, the other at a merino sheep farm.
New Zealand’s Wilderness Lodges are the perfect place to relax and unwind AND to explore New Zealand on foot and by kayak. Located at 2 stunningly wild and scenic locations on the South Island – the untamed West Coast and the wild heart of the Southern Alps.
Lake Moeraki Lodge features rainforests, lakes, rivers and wild seacoast. Lake Moeraki is located on the South Island’s West Coast between the Glaciers and Wanaka/Queenstown. It is a comfortable 5.5 hours drive from Wilderness Lodge Arthur’s Pass and 3.5 hours from Queenstown Airport.
Arthur’s Pass Lodge is on a 6000 acre nature reserve and sheep farm encircled by snow capped peaks and glacier-fed rivers. Wilderness Lodge Arthur’s Pass is located on Highway 73 between Christchurch and the West Coast. It is less than 2 hours drive from Christchurch and the towns of Greymouth & Hokitika and a comfortable 5.5 hours to Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki.
On your own or with their guides you can adventure along seacoasts and through ancient rain forests. Traverse stunning mountain lands and kayak and fish in lakes and rivers. See wild penguins, seals, parrots and rare bird life and experience merino sheep shearing, sheep dogs displays and their working high country farm.
