Experience the Presidential Range Rail Trail with Great Bike Tours — it is New Hampshire’s best kept secret!
Located a few hours from major cities you will find the town of Gorham and there, in this legitimately charming town, you will find the Presidential Rail Trail. Gorham is still known as “The City That Trees Built”. The state of New Hampshire purchased the rail corridor in 1996 and converted the rail bed into the multiuse tail you can travel on today and this 18 mile trail has something to offer in every season. In winter dog sledding and skiing are the only way to get around unless you have snow shoes but in the summer and fall you will be able to enjoy exquisite views either traveling on foot or on bicycle!
Some of the best views can be found here…
The Presidential Mountain range is located in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. This range offers some of the highest peaks within the “Whites” and many notable summits are named for American Presidents.
Known for extreme weather (Mount Washington highest wind recorded at 231 mph, a world record) we can enjoy the views in a much calmer environment from this multiuse trail.

Biking through history
This rail trail notably follows the historic east-west passage through the White Mountain Range. From the earlier Paleoindian hunters over 12,000 ago, through the famous rail history from the 1860s, this place is full of natural and man made history.
Nature on the trail
Surrounded by balsam fir trees, the trail smells like Christmas and offers the feel of the Great Rocky Mountains out west. The Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge is located at the trail’s west end and offered good changes at wildlife viewing which is why it is considered one of New Hampshire’s “crown jewels”. Moose, bear, coyote, deer and a large variety of birds can be spotted as you ride, if you keep a sharp eye out. Check out their Facebook page for the most recent sightings.
