Cycling Georgia’s Golden Isles with Great Bike Tours is “Shrimply the best”
While on our Georgia’s Golden Isles Cycling Vacation you will have the opportunity to cycle to Jekyll Island. Along the way you will experience the only elevation changes of the week and they are mild at best. The 2 bridges you will cross include the 65 ft high crossing of the Atlantic Intracoastal waterway and the 486 ft high bridge that crosses over the Brunswick River.
Brunswick Now and Then
As you arrive in Brunswick you will be introduced to a way of life that is found in few places in the world. In the historic district you will find streets lined by centuries old oaks and Victorian era architecture. dates back to 1738 when the first plantation was established. World War 1 & 2 brought ship building to the area as well as tourism.
More recently Brunswick and the local area is known for the tidal salt marshes These “nursery” ecosystems are a fragile yet enormously productive and are considered
one of the most productive marshlands in the world, yielding a wide array of wild
Georgia shrimp, oysters, clams, crab, and many fish, both small and large.
Shrimpin’ is now a way of life for many of the locals. With the deep natural port and easy access to shipping and rail lines products are shipped easily along the east coast.
A Tour on the Lady Jane Trawler
We include with our tour a private excursion through the pristine waters and vast salt marshlands of the Golden Isles . This is a very interesting and educational experience! You will experience the life of a shrimper as the crew hauls in nets teeming with Georgia shrimp and local fish, sharks, and crabs.
Freshest Seafood Served
There is nothing better than fresh seafood and we will provide a wonderful culinary experience at a local restaurant overlooking the Marshes of Glynn as you share your morning adventures.
After a busy day exploring there is no better place to relax than at the Jekyll Island Club. Just 11 miles from Brunswick, this treasured historic hotel has been updated and upgraded to offer all the desired amenities. Once known as the richest and most exclusive (and inaccessible) club in the world, this location was the first ever to connect Washington D.C, New York and Boston via a transcontinental phone call. There is so much history to explore before or after dinner. But be sure to get some rest as there is so much more to come on the following days of this grand bike tour!
