A bicycle tour is a great way to see new places, get some exercise, and have an adventure. But before you set off on your journey, it’s important to pack the right gear. In this article, you will find some useful tips on what to pack for a bicycle tour and packing lists for your multisport vacation.
- Clothing: You’ll need to pack comfortable clothing that you can move in easily. A few pairs of shorts, cycling jerseys, and t-shirts should be enough. You may also want to pack a pair of long pants, a rain jacket, and a hat.
- Shoes: You’ll need a good pair of cycling shoes that will provide support and comfort. You may also want to pack a pair of sandals or flip-flops for around camp.
- Gear: In addition to clothing and shoes, you’ll need to pack some basic gear, such as a sleeping bag, tent, backpack, cooking supplies, and a first-aid kit.
- Electronics: If you plan on using electronics on your trip, be sure to pack a charger for your phone, camera, and other devices.
When packing for a bicycle tour, it’s important to keep weight in mind. You don’t want to be weighed down by too much gear, so try to pack light. You can also save space by packing items that serve multiple purposes. For example, a pair of cycling shorts can also be worn as swim trunks.
Once you’ve packed your gear, it’s important to distribute the weight evenly. This will help you ride more comfortably and avoid back pain. You can also use a bike-packing frame bag to help distribute the weight more evenly.
Packing for a bicycle tour can be a daunting task, but it’s important to do your research and plan ahead. By following these tips, you can ensure that you have everything you need for a safe and enjoyable trip.
Here are some additional tips for packing for a bicycle tour:
- Choose the right panniers: Panniers are bags that attach to the sides of your bike. They are a great way to carry your gear, as they keep your weight low and centered. When choosing panniers, make sure they are durable and waterproof.
- Pack your gear in layers: This will allow you to adjust your clothing as the weather changes. You may also want to pack a rain jacket and a pair of gloves.
- Don’t forget the essentials: In addition to your gear, be sure to pack the essentials, such as a first-aid kit, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
- Test your gear before you go: This will help you identify any problems and make sure everything is working properly.
With a little planning, you can easily pack for a bicycle tour. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your trip today!

Final Notes on Packing
When packing for our Great Bike Tour please keep in mind the length of the tour, and any additional add-on days before and after your tour. Check the weather forecast for your destination and make sure you only pack in your carry-on bag items permitted by the airlines (this is where you should pack your medications as well).
Plan to dress in layers on cooler days or in the evenings. Having multi-use items like wrinkle resistant shirts, compressible jackets, sun-proof clothing, and crushable hats will save you additional concerns. Don’t forget your sleeping attire (if necessary).
When packing your toiletries think about tucking in a few first aid items for “just in case”. Small items like tweezers, first-aid ointment, bandages, or even safety-pins do not take up much space and can come in handy.
We hope this list helps you to pack for your Great Bike Tour and we look forward to seeing you soon!
